Matt has been climbing seriously since September of 1999. After a couple random encounters with climbing during high school he took a “Rock Climbing and Mountaineering” class at Fullerton College which was hosted by RockCity Climbing Center. Two weeks into the class he started working at the gym and never bothered to finish college.
He has since worked in sales, traveled the world as a musician and a tour manager, helped develop tactical equipment with SWAT teams, and worked as a photographer for the past several years. All while being married to another amazing climber, raising three kids and somehow trying to keep in shape!
After several years of learning trad climbing in J-Tree and Taquitz he switched to bouldering and sport climbing. Proud ascents include the FA of “Crematorium” 5.12+ in Big Bear, FA of “Anakim” 5.13 Sphinx Rock, “Formula 50” V11 Golden Colorado and many more. His current goals are to find a long term project in the 5.14+ range and to spend more time telling stories through his camera.
